Cleaning and Prevention
Dentistry is founded on the principle of prevention. You are going to be using your teeth for your entire life, every single day! All patients are recommended biannual cleanings and examinations. A professional cleaning removes hard plaque and dental calculus buildup that cannot be removed by brushing and flossing alone. It also involves a fluoride treatment and polish to help protect and soothe your teeth and gums. Even if you haven’t had a cleaning in years, it’s never too late to treat your teeth and educate yourself on oral hygiene. You might be surprised at what we catch with our intraoral cameras!
Routine Examination
One of the most important aspects of routine cleanings is the examination, where dental disease has a chance of being detected early. Early detection and treatment is prevention in dental care! All dental diseases have a cause and effect relationship. For example, you have a chance at preventing a tooth extraction if you completed a root canal early. You have a chance at preventing a root canal if an appropriate filling stops decay early. You have a chance at preventing fillings if appropriate preventative care is completed regularly by your own hygiene habits and care from your dentist. It is important for us to educate you on your dental needs!
